Black Girls Dive Foundation Mission
Keeping Young Girls & Women Afloat
Our mission addresses three critical issues: (1) the racial and socioeconomic achievement gap that undermines our ideals of freedom, equality and opportunity; (2) the limited or restricted sense of youth agency and voice; and (3) the cultivation of the next generation of scientists, conservationists and planetary stewards.
Our efforts of positive social-impact through educational programming yields transformational experiences by implementation of unique opportunities. These opportunities include our nationally recognized STREAMS program, an aquatic-based eco-STEM program that integrates Science, Technology, Robotics, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics with SCUBA diving (STREAMS); and our restoration and conservation projects and initiatives that include:
Sea to Shining Sea, an ocean debris clean-up initiative;
Project Trailblazer, an initiative that encourages families to explore the outdoors and their aquatic and green spaces, and clean streams and watersheds, remove invasive plants, and plant native plants to address shoreline erosion (Formerly ALL-EN project)
Project CORAL (Collaborative Ocean Research And Leadership), an initiative which utilizes 3D printing to restore coral reefs; and
Project CORE (Collaborative Oyster Research and Education, is a collaborative initiative between Black Girls Dive Foundation and the Severn River Association. This oyster monitoring and conservation initiative address the fragile oyster population and utilizes innovative pedagogical tools and a blended learning delivery model to connect youth’s learning through in-field experiences on the Severn River.
